Principal's Message
Welcome to Sunnyside Elementary School!
It is an honor to serve as the principal of Sunnyside and to be part of such a vibrant and dedicated school community. With over 20 years of experience in education, I have had the privilege of serving as a teacher, principal, and district leader. Each of these roles has strengthened my commitment to creating a positive, inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
At Sunnyside, we are proud of our strong culture of learning and our commitment to supporting the whole child. Through our SHINE expectations—Scholarly Habits, Have Respect, Impress with Integrity, Never Give Up, and Exceed Expectations—we empower students to grow not only as learners, but also as kind, responsible, and resilient individuals.
Working alongside our talented staff, my goal is to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education that prepares them for future success. We believe in fostering a growth mindset, encouraging students to embrace challenges, think critically, and persevere. Just as important, we value strong partnerships with families and the community. Open communication and collaboration are essential to creating the supportive environment our students deserve.
Sunnyside is a special place, and I am truly grateful to be part of this community. I look forward to continuing to work together to support our students and celebrate their many successes.

About Our School
Welcome to Sunnyside Elementary! We are proud to serve a diverse community that we truly value and celebrate. Our school is known for being warm, inclusive, and welcoming, where every student and family feels a strong sense of belonging.
Family Partnerships & Opportunities
At Sunnyside, we believe that strong partnerships with families are essential to student success. We actively encourage parent and family involvement through a variety of opportunities. Our PTA meets monthly and plays an important role in supporting our school through engaging events, fundraisers, and activities that bring our community together. Families are always welcome to participate and contribute.
In addition, parents are invited to take part in shared decision-making through our School Site Council (SSC) and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), which meet regularly. We also offer family education opportunities designed to provide strategies, resources, and meaningful ways to support student learning at home.
PTA Involvement
Our Sunnyside PTA meets monthly and welcomes all families. Meetings focus on sharing ideas, planning events, and supporting programs that enhance the student experience, including fundraising efforts for field trips and enrichment opportunities.
Intervention & Enrichment
We offer a variety of before- and after-school intervention and enrichment programs to support and extend student learning. Families are encouraged to connect with the school office or their child’s teacher for current offerings.
Recognition & Achievement
Sunnyside Elementary has been recognized for excellence at both the state and national levels. Our honors include California Distinguished School, National Blue Ribbon School, Title I Achieving School, ERP Honor Roll School, PBIS Platinum Recognition, and ranking among the top 20% of K–8 schools in California.

We take great pride in supporting the success of every student. Our dedicated teachers use effective instructional strategies and build strong relationships to meet each child’s unique learning needs. Classrooms are highly engaging, with students actively participating in discussions, collaboration, and meaningful learning experiences that promote critical thinking and academic growth.
